Intensifying the atmosphere of national reconciliation and unity emerges as an important problem in promoting the independent reunification movement more briskly.

  Leader Kim Jong Il said that apart from the inter-Korean reconciliation and grand national unity,  the independent and peaceful reunification of the Korea is inconceivable. The great unity of the entire nation is just the national reunification, he added.

  The basic guarantee for realizing reunification independently and peacefully lies in achieving reconciliation and great unity of the nation. From this point of view, national reconciliation and unity constitutes the fundamental prerequisite to independent and peaceful reunification of the country and the intrinsic contents.

  The main agent of national reunification is the entire Korean nation. The cause of national reunification is the cause of realizing national unity, reconnecting the blood vein of the nation divided into the north and the south. It is because reunification is the cause of the whole nation that can be achieved only by the concerted struggle of the whole nation.

  Without reconciliation and unity,  national division and confrontation cannot be ended and  independent and peaceful reunification is impossible.

  An atmosphere is important for every matter. If the atmosphere for reconciliation and unity is created within the nation, it is beneficial to the unity and reunification of the whole nation and it promotes positively the independent reunification movement.

  After the adoption of the historic June 15 declaration the undertakings for reconciliation and cooperation between the north and the south are powerfully promoted and in this course the atmosphere favorable for national reconciliation and unity is being exalted.

  Inter-Korean relations and reunification movement have been drastically developed on the principle of "By our nation itself" and epochal results previously unimagined are achieved in the struggle for national reconciliation and unity.

  Many-sided dialogue, contact, cooperation and exchange have been waged briskly between the north and the south and through the different reunification functions participated by many compatriots of various strata the inter-Korean reconciliation and unity are promoted.

  The brilliant fruits achieved in the June 15 reunification era stimulate the mood to reconcile and unite under the ideal of "By our nation itself".

  In this struggle it is important to make the achievements solid and develop the struggle more strenuously. The created atmosphere should neither be tarnished nor disturbed. It should be exalted more and more.

  The moves of the separatist forces within and without who dislike national unity and strive to shatter it into pieces are getting more vicious as days go by. 

  Of late,  the U.S. resorts to war fever and is unscrupulous to hinder the development of inter-Korean relations and the nation's reconciling mood. Siding with this, the south Korean pro-US forces come out to inspire the enmity and confrontation among the fellow countrymen.

  The moves of the U.S. and south Korean anti-reunification forces are the criminal acts to brake the development of the inter-Korean relations and to pour  cold water on the nation's mood of reconciliation and unity.

  However desperately the inside and outside separatist forces make efforts, the advance of the nation toward reconciliation and unity and independent reunification can never be frustrated. The mood formed within the nation can never be broken with whatever.

  "By our nation itself" is  the banner of  struggle for national reconciliation and unity.

  The traction power and vitality of the ideal "By our nation itself" are getting increased as time flows.
