In South Hamgyong Province there is a school called the "School of the lily of the valley".

  There is a touching story about the school.

  When the news that an arboretum was to be built in the Kumsusan Memorial Palace where President Kim Il Sung lies in state was spread, the principal and the teachers of the school got learned of the fact that boys and girls of the school eagerly wanted to dedicate their sincerity to the tree garden to be built in the Kumsusan Memorial Palace.

  The principal suggested to plant many fragrant lilies of valley in the vicinity of the school with the thought that rare and precious flowers and trees should be planted in the arboretum.  At a teachers' meeting the school decided to raise up a lot of the lilies of the valley which the President loved, to send them to the arboretum in the Palace and to make it a regular work. 

  Thereafter, the school began to plant and raise the lilies of the valleys energetically. At the foot of a mountain they made a shadowed area in a large scale according to the properties of the flower, created a grand lily of the valley's garden and fertilized its soil with manure.

   It was not easy to cultivate the flowers. In one year long drought and intense hot almost dried up the root of the flowers and once the sprouts of the flower were almost blown away all by the storming wind.

  However, the teachers and pupils of the school never forgot even a moment the noble will of leader Kim Jong Il who endeavored at all costs to deify Kim Il Sung as the eternal sun of Juche and put their spirit into the flower cultivation.

  The school has sent the roots of the lily of the valley to the arboretum of Kumsusan Memorial Palace, the supreme temple of Juche, for about ten years and the school is widely known as the "School of the lily of the valley".
